THE SECRET TO SHINE
Everyone has heard about polishing your car, but not many know about the best kept detailer’s secret: glaze! Glazes contain micro-refined oils, fillers, and leveling agents to fill in light swirls and scratches. Scratches and swirls are tiny cuts or grooves into the clear coat of your paint. The harsh angles of the cuts catch the light, and thus appear as imperfections on your otherwise pristine car. Glazes fill in those scratches and swirls to temporarily even out the surface creating a smooth surface that the light simply bounces off of creating a wet mirror finish.
WHO USES GLAZES?
Detailers use glazes after polishing to fill in those left over tiny scratches and swirls that you simply can’t polish out, or that were missed. Any Chemical Guys glaze will leave the surface looking dripping wet and is sure to impress even the most discerning customer. Enthusiasts use glazes to fill in minor swirls or scratches when they don’t have the time or resources to perform a full correction. Show car owners use glazes to give their ride an unmatched mirror reflection to impress judges and show goers all over.
THE TRUTH ABOUT GLAZES
Many people think that glazes are alternatives to polishing, but really, they aren’t. The only way to “fix” or “remove” scratches is through machine polishing, and removing layers of paint to reveal a flat lustrous surface. For very light or fine scratches, and for delicate paint finishes where polishing is not an option, glazes are perfect to fill minor swirls and imperfections. Glazes are not permanent solutions, and eventually, they will wash out.
GLAZES DO MORE THINGS THAN ONE
All Chemical Guys glazes also contain UVA and UVB protection to help shield your car from the harmful effects of the sun.
WHEN DO I GLAZE?
Glazes are best applied after claying and polishing your vehicle, but before sealing and waxing.
In order for your glaze to stick the best and get the best results, it’s important to clay bar your car first to purify the surface of any impurities. A clean and decontaminated surface will help the glaze create the strongest bond with the paintwork, allowing it last its longest and look its best.
You can choose to apply your glaze by hand or by machine. If you already have a dual action polisher, you can use a black, red, or blue pad to apply any Chemical Guys glaze.
