How to Remove Water Spots from your Car

Say goodbye to water spots on your paintwork and plastics with our specialty products.

Our water spot removers and sanding products are designed to gently but effectively remove water spots from paintwork, glass, and polished metal. The mildly acidic formula in our gel product neutralizes the alkaline causing hard water stains for a smooth, clean finish.

Start by cleaning the surface to remove any loose dirt or debris. Apply 3-5 dots of Heavy Duty Water Spot Remover to a microfiber applicator and spread over a 2’ x 2’ area. Follow up by thoroughly re-cleaning the area with plenty of water, a quick detail spray, or a waterless wash solution to neutralize the gel and leave the surface clean. For additional protection against future contamination and water spot etching, you may choose to apply wax or sealant to the area.

What causes water spots on cars?

Water spots on car paint are typically caused by mineral deposits left behind when water evaporates. These spots are more common in areas with hard water, which contains a higher concentration of minerals like calcium and magnesium. When water droplets land on your car's surface and then evaporate, these minerals create unsightly spots.

If water droplets are left to dry on your car in direct sunlight or high temperatures, the water evaporates especially quickly, leaving behind the minerals and increasing the likelihood of water spots. Improper drying techniques, such as using a dirty or rough cloth, can also contribute to water spot formation by dragging minerals across the paint surface.
