Clay Bars
Decontaminate the surface of your paint from microscopic grime. These clay bars can remove years of embedded contamination but are soft enough that they won't cause marring or micro-scratches.

Getting Started with Clay Bars and Clay Luber
Clay Luber lubricates the area you’ll be claying, which is an important part of the process. Without lubrication, you may get marring or scratching (plus the clay won’t glide).
To get started, use about ⅓ of a Chemical Guys Clay Bar. Cut it with scissors or rip it off, then knead it in your hand to make it more malleable. Roll it into a ball, then flatten into a disk. You should be working with a patty that covers about three fingers-width.
What’s the difference between Clay Bars?
All Chemical Guys’ Clay bars work to restore a smooth finish to vehicles but come in different varieties for different needs.
Heavy Duty, Medium Duty, Light Duty, and the OG
- The Heavy Duty Clay Bar is for intense issues, embedded debris, and severely neglected vehicles.
- The Medium Duty Clay Bar is for vehicles that feel rough or sticky to the touch, but don’t need the Heavy Duty treatment.
- The OG Clay Bar is our light-to-medium option, for surfaces that have mid-levels of grime and contamination.
- The Light Duty Clay Bar is our gentlest option, for paintwork that is slightly bumpy, new, or has light contamination (best for show cars).
What if you drop the clay bar on the dirty floor?
Unfortunately, if you drop the clay you’re using or it becomes completely soiled, you’ll need to discard it and continue with a fresh piece of the clay bar. Some detailers prefer the clay block because it’s easier to hold and can be rinsed off with warm water if it drops on the ground.
