Vehicle headlamps are not only a stylish component of your
vehicle, they are also a necessity. In the mid 1980’s the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
(NHTSA) allowed for polycarbonate headlamp lenses to be installed on U.S.
Vehicles.Since this was a move
from traditional glass to a plastic material, the surface had to be coated with
a chemical hard-coat to maintain transparency. Over time however, this surface becomes oxidized due to the
constant exposure of U.V. rays as well as environmental impurities. As this occurs, the lens becomes dull
and discolored resulting in a drastic reduction of driver safety. According to the NHTSA, 49% of all traffic
accidents occur at night. This is
compounded by the fact that 25% of all auto-travel occurs during the darkest
hours. Providing a service that
not only revives the natural aesthetics of a vehicles headlamp but also
restores the clarity needed for safe nighttime driving is a must for any
Headlamps come in all shapes and sizes and use advanced
technologies like High Intensity Discharge (HID), Projector and the traditional
Halogen. Some have auto-leveling systems,
some have LED accent lights and there are a select few with an automatic wiping
system. Because of this the price
of a replacement headlamp can cost upwards of $1,500 each. That is a hefty price to pay when all
that needs to be restored is the surface of the lens.
