Headlight Restoration Training

Smart Detailing University’s Headlight Restoration Class teaches students how to restore faded and discolored headlamps to a crystal clear finish using the most advanced products and techniques.

Do you remember when your headlights were clear? You use to drive around and everyone would say, “Look at those headlights…they look so fresh and so clean clean.”Well that was then and now they look dull and discolored and no one wants to be your friend. You wash them, polish them and have tried every trick that you’ve heard of and they just wont clean up. Ready to find a more permanent solution that you can use for yourself as well as sell to others?  Then get ready to be blown away by SDU’s Headlight Restoration Training Program.

Vehicle headlamps are not only a stylish component of your vehicle, they are also a necessity. In the mid 1980’s the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) allowed for polycarbonate headlamp lenses to be installed on U.S. Vehicles.Since this was a move from traditional glass to a plastic material, the surface had to be coated with a chemical hard-coat to maintain transparency. Over time however, this surface becomes oxidized due to the constant exposure of U.V. rays as well as environmental impurities. As this occurs, the lens becomes dull and discolored resulting in a drastic reduction of driver safety. According to the NHTSA, 49% of all traffic accidents occur at night. This is compounded by the fact that 25% of all auto-travel occurs during the darkest hours. Providing a service that not only revives the natural aesthetics of a vehicles headlamp but also restores the clarity needed for safe nighttime driving is a must for any professional detailer.

Headlamps come in all shapes and sizes and use advanced technologies like High Intensity Discharge (HID), Projector and the traditional Halogen. Some have auto-leveling systems, some have LED accent lights and there are a select few with an automatic wiping system. Because of this the price of a replacement headlamp can cost upwards of $1,500 each. That is a hefty price to pay when all that needs to be restored is the surface of the lens.

Here at SDU we have years of experience using top-of-the-line products and have perfected the art of headlamp restoration. Skilled and talented professionals who will assist you in walking away with the knowledge and expertise to provide a valuable and profitable service teach our students.  Safety first!
