Bringing the protection of a ceramic onto your fabrics can now easily be done with HydroThread. However, unlike paint, the fibers that make up your fabric are more intricate. With paint, what you see is what you get; When you touch the surface, if the surface is dry, it’s dry.
When you’re dealing with fabric, it’s important to think in layers. Although the surface may feel dry, the underlying fibers may still be wet. Depending on the climate and the pile length of the fabric you’re dealing with, your specific drying time will vary. More humid climates will naturally require a longer drying time, as will longer pile fabrics. We’ve all experienced this. Think of your bath towel vs a bandana: that super plush bath towel that resembles the shag carpet your grandma used to have in your living room takes longer to dry after using than a wet bandana.
Let’s look at some examples: Stephan lives in a very humid climate. He’s looking to treat his short pile car floor mats because his girlfriend ALWAYS spills her hot cappuccino. After coating his mats, Stephan is going to let his mats dry for 48 hours. Even though Stephan removed his floor mats from his car and took them inside, the humidity is still in the air and soaked in his mats, so he waits 48 hours. Good job, Stephan!
Curtis lives in California, where it’s warm and dry. Curtis wants to coat his sofa because he has 2 kids that are super messy! After applying HydroThread, Curtis is going to wait 36 hours because the pile on his sofa is pretty long and even though the surface may feel dry, he knows that deep down the fabric is still wet.
Jake lives in Arizona, where it's hot and dry. He wants to HydroThread his low pile car seats because his dog, Barky, loves getting dirty! After coating his seats, Jake is going to wait 24 hours to let his fabric completely dry.
Step 1
Clean fabric surface thoroughly with a premium fabric cleaner like Fabric Clean or Lightning Fast. This will ensure the best bond between HydroThread and your fabric. Once the surface is clean, allow it to dry. Just because you run your hand over the surface and it feels dry, that does not mean the underlying fibers are dry. Depending on the climate, you may need to wait longer. Remember, more humid climates and longer pile fabrics require longer drying times.
Step 2
Cover non-fabric areas around surfaces to be treated to prevent overspray.
Step 3
Shake bottle well, then twist the nozzle to “spray” feature. Holding the bottle at least 12” from surface, lightly mist fabric while sweeping the bottle back and forth to ensure even coverage.
Step 4
For best results, work into fibers with a soft bristled brush. This will further ensure that the product is evenly spread out, as well as help the chemical penetrate deep into the fibers.
Step 5
Wait 20 minutes for the surface to dry. Certain climates may need longer time in-between coats to allow the surface to completely dry.
Step 6
For high traffic areas (or if you’re just really messy), apply additional coats as desired.
Step 7
For best results, allow at least 24 hours to dry. Depending on the climate and the pile length, the hydrophobic effects will continue to improve even more after 24 hours of being applied. Remember, more humid climates and higher piles require longer drying time! Always test fabric/fiber for color fastness in an inconspicuous area. 😃
