How do I do a surface evaluation?

SURFACE EVALUATION

Q: When should I do a surface Evaluation?

A: Surface evaluation is usually done after youíve washed and dried a customerís car.

Q: What are the steps I should follow in evaluating a vehicle:

A: Steps:

1.    Wash and dry the vehicle.

2.    Feel the paint and listen to the sound you hear as you glide your hand across the paint.

3.     Analyze the brightness and brilliance of the color.

4.     Make notes on swirl marks, surface scratches, fading, oxidation, overspray and other paint blemishes and imperfections.

Q: What are water spots and there do they come from?

A: Water spots are caused by dissolved minerals in water. Calcium carbonate (sometimes called lime) is the most common and appears white and chalky when dry. These minerals form ions when dissolved in water, when the water evaporates, it leaves the minerals behind. That's why water heaters, coffee pots, and humidifiers get coated with minerals over time. Harder your water, the more dissolved minerals.
