All towels are not created equal. In addition to
differences in size, color, softness, and absorbency, you may encounter
unwelcome surprises. If a component of a towel’s dye mixture isn’t fixed
properly, that component may disappear, altering the overall color of the
towel. The metamorphosis can be so gradual that you don’t realize it. Towels
that shrink in length don’t usually shrink much in width, and vice
versa--it’s all a function of how the towel is woven. Some towels shrink in
the borders of each end, leaving them fat in the middle and flared at the
ends.
